Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to providing the latest approved treatment options for skin diseases, including biological drugs and targeted therapies, in accordance with scientific evidence and protocols governing their use, tailored to each patient’s condition and needs. He stressed the importance of keeping pace with medical advancements and translating them into tangible outcomes that improve patients’ health and quality of life.
Speaking at the opening of the 2026 Conference of the Council of Dermatology Departments, Dr. Al-Awadi noted that dermatology is experiencing rapid development, opening new horizons for treating conditions that previously posed challenges for both patients and physicians. He clarified that this specialty is not limited to treating common and chronic diseases, but also encompasses the diagnosis of immune-related and rare diseases, as well as managing acute and critical cases that may be life-threatening.
He pointed out that dealing with such cases requires urgent intervention and collaboration among dermatologists, emergency care teams, intensive care units, and relevant medical specialties.
He explained that dermatology services in Kuwait are built on an integrated system starting with primary healthcare centers in the governorates, proceeding through dermatology departments in general hospitals, and culminating at the Asaad Al-Hamad Center for Dermatology as a specialized referral center. This ensures patients receive appropriate care at the right time, from early detection and diagnosis to specialized treatment and management of complex cases.
Dr. Al-Awadi expressed pride in the Asaad Al-Hamad Center for Dermatology receiving two international accreditations within the “ADK” network for atopic dermatitis and the “U-Care” network for chronic urticaria. He affirmed that this achievement reflects the professional and institutional efforts made to elevate the quality of specialized care and maintain standards of excellence.
He stressed the importance of investing in national competencies to enhance Kuwait’s capacity to meet its health needs and develop the future of the healthcare sector. He commended the outcomes of the Kuwaiti Board in Dermatology under the auspices of the Kuwait Institute of Medical Specialties, and their contributions to patient care, clinical practice development, training, and scientific research, alongside the efforts of trainers and supervisors in preparing new generations of physicians.

For her part, Dr. Atal Al-Lafi, Chair of the Council of Dermatology Departments, emphasized that rapid advancements in immunology, targeted therapies, and precision medicine impose a responsibility to translate scientific progress into better clinical outcomes, expand access to treatment, and improve patients’ quality of life.
She clarified that the conference serves as an important platform for scientific exchange, international cooperation, and professional development, contributing to strengthening Kuwait’s position as a regional center of excellence in dermatology.
She noted that the Asaad Al-Hamad Center’s receipt of two international accreditations this year in the fields of atopic dermatitis and chronic urticaria reflects a commitment to global standards, evidence-based care, and continuous improvement.
