Kuwait’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, affirmed on Thursday the commitment to keeping pace with the rapid scientific advancements in dermatology and to providing the latest approved treatment options, including biological drugs and targeted therapies.

This statement came during a speech delivered by Minister Al-Awadi at the opening of the 2026 Conference of the Dermatology Departments Council, which runs for three days and features participation by a select group of physicians, consultants, and researchers from Kuwait and abroad.

Minister Al-Awadi explained that dermatology is a highly critical clinical specialty whose responsibilities extend from the prevention and treatment of common and chronic diseases to the diagnosis of autoimmune and rare conditions, as well as managing acute and critical cases that may be life-threatening.

He added that the Ministry of Health continues to give dedicated attention to dermatology services due to their significant health, psychological, and social impacts, and because they require accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and careful follow-up to preserve patients’ health and their ability to lead normal lives.

He noted that dermatology services in Kuwait are based on an integrated network that begins with primary healthcare centers across all governorates, passes through dermatology departments in general hospitals, and reaches specialized care provided by the Asaad Al-Hamad Center for Dermatology as a specialized reference center, ensuring that patients receive the appropriate service at the right time.

He praised the “achievement” attained by the Asaad Al-Hamad Center for Dermatology in securing two international accreditations within the ADCARE network for atopic dermatitis and the UCARE network for chronic urticaria.

Minister Al-Awadi expressed “pride” in the outcomes of the Kuwaiti Board of Dermatology under the umbrella of the Kuwait Institute of Medical Specialties (KIMS), and in the contributions they make to serving patients, developing clinical practice, and participating in training and scientific research.

For her part, Dr. Atlal Al-Lafi, Chair of the Dermatology Departments Council and Conference President, delivered a similar speech stating that the conference represents a leading scientific platform for knowledge exchange, international cooperation, and professional development. She noted that concerted efforts aim to consolidate Kuwait’s position as a regional center of excellence in dermatology.

She clarified that dermatology is experiencing rapid scientific breakthroughs, particularly in the fields of immunology, targeted therapies, and precision medicine, adding that “the responsibility demands translating these innovations into tangible clinical outcomes that facilitate patients’ access to treatment and improve their quality of life.”

Al-Lafi called on physicians and young healthcare staff to seize the opportunity presented by the conference to benefit from the expertise of international consultants and exchange perspectives and ideas that will enhance the healthcare services provided to patients.
