Apple CEO John Ternus unveiled the first MacBook models with touchscreens on Wednesday, marking a departure from the company’s long-standing opposition to the technology, as the launch capped a wave of product releases ahead of the holiday shopping season.
During an Apple event in Los Angeles, Ternus showcased a MacBook Pro model equipped with an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display, emphasizing its contrast, clarity, and brightness to an audience of content creators and creative professionals.
Ternus said, “We love the Mac, and it’s the reason many of us joined Apple in the first place. The Mac has never been better, and it has never been more powerful.”
The event comes amid an intensive marketing campaign featuring new product launches since Ternus, a veteran executive in Apple’s hardware division, assumed the role of CEO earlier this month.
The new touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model equipped with the M3 Pro chip, while the top-tier 16-inch model with the more powerful M3 Max chip starts at $4,799.
