The Pakistani cabinet has approved a defense cooperation agreement concluded between Pakistan and the State of Kuwait, aimed at enhancing defense cooperation between the two countries. The office of the Pakistani Prime Minister said in a statement that “the approval came during a meeting held by the cabinet in the capital, Islamabad, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif,” clarifying that the agreement was reached on June 11, 2023. In a related context, Sharif affirmed during the meeting Pakistan’s continued sincere diplomatic efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and to reduce tensions, noting that regional unrest is one of the main reasons for the rise in global oil prices. He added that Pakistan plays an active role in supporting peace-building efforts, pointing to the recent visit of a Pakistani delegation to Tehran, which included Army Chief General Asim Munir, and to talks held between senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Turkey. He clarified that the talks took place in a positive atmosphere and addressed ways to enhance coordination and mutual understanding in the region, in line with an agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
