Cairo – Agencies: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on parliament yesterday to convene an emergency session to authorize him to intervene at the request of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Speaking at a ceremony for the graduation of military academy students, al-Sisi said Egypt would carry out any measures to protect and defend Saudi Arabia, in line with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. (See page 13). Al-Sisi expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Gulf brotherhood, led by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, for their support of Egypt following the events of 2013, emphasizing that gas and oil shipments were reaching Egypt without charge, adding, “Without that, we would not have known what to do.” Earlier, President al-Sisi had affirmed that Egypt and Saudi Arabia constitute the heart of the Arab and Islamic nations, and that Egypt does not accept any infringement on the security or borders of the Kingdom. Speaking at a ceremony for the graduation of a new cohort of police academy students, al-Sisi stated that the assertion linking the national security of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf Arab states is correct, emphasizing that targeting Saudi Arabia in this manner affects the national security of both the Arab world and Egypt. He stressed Egypt’s rejection of any infringement on the security and stability of Saudi Arabia, as well as its rejection of any threat to the security of the Red Sea and international maritime passages, underscoring the importance of safeguarding Saudi security and de-escalating tensions.
