Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Sabah Al-Makhzoum, said on Tuesday that developing the energy sector is a national responsibility that requires a clear vision and integrated institutional efforts to balance meeting current needs with preparing for future demands, while also enhancing the country’s capacity to keep pace with population, urban, and economic growth.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy stated in a press release that these remarks were made by Minister Al-Makhzoum during his chairing of the third meeting of the Supreme Energy Committee, which reviewed the progress of its technical teams and examined the outputs of a consultancy study on the 2035 Energy Sector Transformation Implementation Plan.

The ministry added that Minister Al-Makhzoum emphasized the importance of setting implementation priorities, clarifying roles and responsibilities among relevant entities, and linking work phases to measurable performance indicators, thereby enabling progress monitoring, addressing challenges, and supporting timely decision-making.

He further stressed that the integration of government, academic, and technical expertise contributes to developing practical solutions based on studies and data, enhancing the efficiency of planning and implementation.

According to the statement, Minister Al-Makhzoum affirmed that the achievements in the energy sector will have lasting impacts on future generations, necessitating continued teamwork to build a more efficient, flexible, and sustainable energy system that supports Kuwait’s development trajectory.

Minister Al-Makhzoum said, “The success of the energy sector transformation is measured by our ability to translate plans into real-world projects that enhance supply reliability, improve resource efficiency, support energy mix diversification, and expand renewable energy in line with Kuwait’s priorities and development needs.”

The statement noted that the committee discussed during the meeting the ministry’s presentation on the progress of the technical teams’ follow-up team, including the framework, achievements of the three technical teams, key challenges they face, and the directives required from the committee to support ongoing work.

The committee also reviewed a presentation by the Kuwait Foundation for Advanced Sciences on the outputs of the consultancy study for the 2035 Energy Sector Transformation Implementation Plan, which covered targets for 2035 and 2060, the growth charter, project portfolio, policies, studies, governance model, and performance measurement indicators.
