The Pakistani cabinet approved on Wednesday a defense cooperation agreement between Pakistan and the State of Kuwait, aimed at enhancing defense collaboration between the two friendly nations.
The office of the Pakistani prime minister said in a statement that the approval came during a cabinet meeting held in the capital, Islamabad, and chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. It clarified that the agreement was reached on June 11, 2023.
In a related development, Sharif emphasized during the meeting Pakistan’s continued sincere diplomatic efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and to reduce tensions, noting that regional unrest is one of the main drivers of rising global oil prices.
He added that Pakistan plays an active role in supporting peace-building efforts, pointing to the recent visit of a Pakistani delegation to Tehran, which included Army Chief General Asim Munir, and to talks held between senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Turkey.
He explained that the discussions took place in a positive atmosphere and focused on ways to enhance coordination and mutual understanding in the region, in line with the agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
