കുവൈത്ത് ഏജൻസിയുടെ തേങ്ങമരങ്ങൾ... വഴികളിൽ നിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ മരിക്കുന്നു

Anyone strolling through the streets and seeing the state of the palms feels pain at the large sums the Authority spent on planting palm trees that have suffered neglect for years, as if it was not within its purview and had no relation to them. There are drip irrigation pipes—not to mention water conservation—but palms need care, organic fertilizer, pollination, and 'bagging' to yield the required produce. None of this is seen in the street palm trees, which remain either leaning or thin, or waiting for a death certificate. Street palms are dying while standing, panting from thirst, at a time when they could have been cared for, thereby generating annual production to cover the local market, and perhaps even for export. It seems the Authority does not want this. How many palms have announced death from thirst, neglect, and lack of care? The amounts spent were like tissues—wasted. The palm tree is mentioned in the Holy Quran, where Allah the Exalted says: "And the palm trees, standing tall, having clusters of fruit in readiness" (Qaf: 10), and He also says: "And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates" (Maryam: 25). These noble verses reveal the value of the palm tree in the Holy Quran and in our present lives, as we see street palms panting, seeking a drop that would save them from death.
