Cairo - Hanaa Al-Sayed: Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity at the Egyptian Red Crescent, presided over the closing of the “Red Ready” camp launched by the Egyptian Red Crescent at the Educational City in 6th of October City, with the participation of 350 volunteers from various governorates of the Republic. This event coincided with activities marking International Youth Day and World Humanitarian Day, reflecting the Egyptian Red Crescent’s commitment to preparing qualified youth cadres for humanitarian work and emergency response.
The camp offered a comprehensive training program combining theoretical and practical aspects, aimed at developing volunteers’ skills and enhancing their readiness to handle various humanitarian situations and emergencies. Training covered several specialized areas, alongside activities from the “Little Rescuer” program.
Morsi expressed her happiness at participating in the closing of the “Red Ready” camp, which brought together 350 volunteers from different governorates, in an experience that reflects the value of volunteerism, the importance of investing in youth capacities, and the necessity of building qualified cadres capable of effective response during crises and emergencies.
She emphasized that organizing this camp holds special significance, as it takes place during a month bearing profound humanitarian and youth-related connotations—a month in which we celebrate International Youth Day and also uphold the values and principles of World Humanitarian Day.
She added, “Between youth and humanitarian work, the idea of ‘Red Ready’ affirms that young people are not only the future of humanitarian action but also a fundamental force in its present, and genuine partners in facing challenges and responding to humanitarian needs.”
The Minister of Social Solidarity announced that the Egyptian Red Crescent has launched a preparation center, in addition to establishing a permanent camp for Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers, and launching a new second wave of the “Red Ready” camp with additional volunteers to enhance readiness for emergency response.
She noted that throughout the camp days, the goal was not merely to provide theoretical training, but to create a comprehensive experience that transitions volunteers from knowledge to application, and from training to the field. Volunteers underwent practical exercises and simulations mimicking emergency situations, and trained in multiple areas of response and humanitarian work, including relief and emergency response, family reunification, case management, psychosocial support, health awareness, as well as training on the “Little Rescuer” program.
Dr. Maya Morsi explained that this training methodology reflects a fundamental concept in humanitarian work: readiness is not built at the moment a crisis occurs, but begins well before it, through continuous training, capacity building, coordination, teamwork, and the ability to make timely decisions.
