The Argentine Ambassador to Kuwait, Ramiro Veloso, emphasized the importance of film festivals in enhancing cultural exchange and promoting the cultures of Latin American peoples, expressing his delight at the launch of the Latin Film Festival in Kuwait, a joint initiative by the Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) and the embassies of Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru.
Speaking during the screening of the film “Muchachos: The People’s Film” at CAP, in the presence of several Latin American ambassadors, Veloso stated that the festival represents a beginning he hopes will evolve into an annual tradition, with aspirations for more Latin American embassies to participate in future editions.
He explained that the screened film recounts Argentina’s historic victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, highlighting the journey of star Lionel Messi, who achieved his greatest dream at the age of 35 after years of disappointments and challenges with the national team.
Veloso added that the film does more than document a sporting achievement; it embodies the emotions, hopes, and celebrations of millions of Argentines, underscoring football’s power to unite the nation. He noted that the sport is also passionately followed in Kuwait, enabling the local audience to connect with the feelings conveyed by the film, regardless of nationality.
Veloso expressed his gratitude to the rights holders of the two Argentine films participating in the festival for granting special permission to screen them free of charge on this occasion. He invited the public to attend other screenings presented by the embassies of Cuba, Mexico, and Peru throughout November, to discover more about the region’s cultures and stories.
He pointed out that the next Argentine screening will take place on November 16 with the film “Café de los Maestros,” a documentary exploring tango music and featuring some of Argentina’s most prominent musicians throughout history.
Veloso affirmed that Argentina’s participation in the festival aims to highlight two fundamental passions in his country’s culture: football and tango. He expressed hope that attendees would enjoy the film and that the event would help strengthen cultural ties between Argentina and Kuwait.
