Jazeera Airways, Kuwait’s leading low-cost carrier, has launched self-handling ground services at the T5 passenger terminal of Kuwait International Airport, marking a significant milestone in the company’s transformation journey aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, elevating the passenger experience, and improving cost efficiency.
The first flight handled by Jazeera Airways’ in-house ground team arrived from Medina in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia before departing for Beirut in Lebanon, marking the successful launch of the company’s self-managed ground handling services.
Transitioning from outsourcing to managing ground handling services in-house represents a strategic move that gives Jazeera Airways greater control over various stages of its operations and the passenger journey. By directly managing these critical services, the company aims to accelerate aircraft turnarounds between flights, enhance operational reliability and team coordination, and provide a smoother travel experience for passengers.
This step follows Jazeera Airways’ ongoing investments in developing its self-operational capabilities, including aircraft maintenance and aviation training. By directly overseeing ground handling activities, the company will be able to improve coordination between ground operations and flight schedules, maintain consistent service standards, and respond more quickly to operational requirements.
The shift of ground handling services to Jazeera Airways coincides with a new phase of expansion, supported by its order book of 26 Airbus aircraft, including 18 A320neo and eight A321neo planes. The company recently received the first A320neo from this order, with another expected to arrive before the end of the year.
Parathan Pasupathy, CEO of Jazeera Airways, said: “This year, we celebrate 21 years since the launch of our operations, as well as a new milestone with the transition of ground handling services to Jazeera Airways as part of our journey toward building a more efficient, flexible, and self-reliant airline. By taking greater responsibility for our operations and the passenger journey, we can enhance service quality, accelerate aircraft turnarounds, and achieve greater long-term cost efficiency.”
He added: “As we enter a new phase of growth, it is essential that the expansion of our fleet and route network is accompanied by the development of our operational capabilities and the necessary infrastructure to achieve sustainable growth. This investment reflects our commitment to operational excellence and contributes to developing specialized national competencies in the aviation sector, supporting Kuwait’s ambitions to consolidate its position as a leading regional aviation hub.”
In addition to improving operational performance, this initiative will help develop specialized skills in the aviation sector, strengthen workforce capabilities, and create new job opportunities in Kuwait. It also reaffirms Jazeera Airways’ commitment to continuing investments in the country’s aviation ecosystem, in line with Kuwait Vision 2035.
As Jazeera Airways embarks on a new chapter of growth, the launch of self-handling ground services represents another step toward building a more integrated, efficient, and future-ready airline, while maintaining its commitment to offering competitive prices, reliable operations, and a high-quality travel experience.
