The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the filing of an official complaint against Ethiopia with the United Nations Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council, accusing Addis Ababa of allowing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to launch drone attacks from its territory.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated that the complaint comes in the wake of “blatant aggression” from within Ethiopian territory against civilian sites and power stations in several Sudanese states, carried out by suicide drones equipped with missiles, which resulted in civilian casualties and disrupted essential services for citizens.

The ministry noted that the RSF’s use of Ethiopian territory to target Sudanese soil constitutes a hostile act that places Ethiopia before international law and holds it accountable for violating Article 4(2) of the UN Charter.

According to the statement, Sudan called on Addis Ababa to “halt these hostile acts” and urged the international community to “fulfill its role in holding the terrorist militia accountable and applying international law to the Ethiopian government.”

Earlier on Sunday, the Sudanese government condemned “repeated attacks on facilities and service infrastructure in the country, targeted via drones launched from within Ethiopian territory,” according to the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA).

Egypt also condemned on Saturday the drone attacks on Sudanese facilities and infrastructure, with Khartoum accusing Addis Ababa of being behind them. Egypt affirmed “the importance of halting the flow of weapons through neighboring countries to the RSF militia,” reiterating “its full support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and the necessity of preserving its national institutions, as well as the importance of neighboring countries respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and security and refraining from interfering in its internal affairs.”

It is worth noting that Ethiopia had previously accused Sudan and Egypt of supporting Ethiopian opposition groups currently engaged in battles against the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, allegations that both countries have denied.
