Equate Petrochemical Company announced that its subsidiary, American Ethylene Glycol (AEG), has obtained a carbon footprint certificate from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system, making it the first ethylene glycol producer in the United States to receive this certification.
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday, Equate Petrochemical Company said the certification covers its production of monoethylene glycol (MEG) and diethylene glycol (DEG) at its industrial facilities in Oyster Creek, Texas. The company emphasized that obtaining the certificate represents a significant step toward achieving Equate’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives, translating its sustainability priorities into concrete actions, and providing customers with reliable product-level carbon footprint data.
The certification provides AEG’s customers with independently verified data on the carbon footprint of each product.
Quoting Equate Group Chief Executive Officer Nasser Al-Dosari, the statement said the group’s ESG strategy focuses on translating sustainability priorities into tangible steps that support its business and customers. Al-Dosari affirmed that obtaining the ISCC carbon footprint certificate reflects this approach by providing independent and reliable carbon footprint data, enabling customers to confidently use it in their reports and decisions. He noted that obtaining the ISCC certificate marks an important milestone in AEG’s journey, particularly as the first U.S. ethylene glycol producer to receive this certification.
He added that as disclosure requirements for carbon emissions evolve in major global markets, having reliable data on the emissions of each product has become increasingly important in purchasing decisions and supply chains. Independent third-party verification has become crucial to enhancing trust in environmental information by ensuring rigorous and transparent review.
Julia Cockerham, Director of the Carbon Footprint Verification Program at SCS Global Services, stated that both AEG and Equate demonstrate their commitment by investing in independently verified, reliable carbon footprint data, which supports informed decision-making across the value chain and strengthens efforts toward a more sustainable future.
AEG operates one of the most geographically widespread ethylene glycol production activities in the world, serving customers globally.
