Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi confirmed that the airstrikes carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces against positions of the “Daesh” (ISIS) group were based on field intelligence and aimed at neutralizing confirmed threats and imminent terrorist operations targeting Jordan’s security.

In a joint statement following a phone call with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Al-Shaybani, Safadi expressed deep regret and sorrow over the casualties among innocent civilians during these operations directed against Daesh, which poses a common threat to both countries. He offered his sincerest condolences and sympathies to the Syrian people and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He emphasized that Jordan is as committed to the safety of Syrian citizens as it is to the safety of its own nationals.

According to the statement, the two ministers agreed to establish a joint security committee to examine all details and facts of the recent operations and monitor their repercussions, as well as to develop mechanisms for field and intelligence coordination to address terrorist threats, thereby safeguarding Syrian sovereignty and protecting the lives of innocent civilians. This reflects the strength and resilience of the fraternal relations between the two countries and their brotherly peoples.

During the call, the two ministers reaffirmed the deep historical roots of the distinguished fraternal relations between Jordan and Syria and their peoples, and their shared commitment to enhancing and developing these ties across various fields. They stressed the importance of overcoming any issues that might strain these relations through frank, responsible, and fraternal dialogue, grounded in the firm conviction that the security of both countries is interconnected and that they share a common destiny.

Safadi also reaffirmed Jordan’s full respect for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, stability, and the safety of its citizens. He stressed that Jordan considers Syria’s security and stability an integral part of its own, and takes pride in the unprecedented cooperation, coordination, and trust that have characterized the historic fraternal relations between the two countries and their peoples.

Safadi and Al-Shaybani emphasized that Jordanian-Syrian relations are witnessing close cooperation in confronting shared challenges, foremost among them combating terrorism and curbing cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons through effective and sustainable institutional channels.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) announced that passenger and commercial traffic through the Nussayb border crossing with Jordan has returned to normal.
