A source familiar with the negotiations told Reuters that Qatari mediators have presented Iran with a draft agreement to end the US-Israeli war on the country, and that Tehran is reviewing it, with a response expected by the end of the week. The official added that there were concerns before Sunday’s meeting in Tehran that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might resume attacks on Iran this week. Intensive regional efforts are underway to contain the escalation, which is hindered by Iran’s conditions for ending the war and restoring calm.

A senior Iranian official said his country would not discuss its nuclear program, stressing that the United States must meet Tehran’s demands “to end the war permanently.” Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, during a meeting with National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaee, emphasized the importance of seeking an end to the “neither war nor peace” situation, calling for the need to “maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz.”

In response, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Iran to demonstrate good intentions, halt threats against Gulf states, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, thereby creating conditions to succeed in mediation efforts and reach a diplomatic resolution to the crisis.

In Moscow, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed developments in the negotiations, the Strait of Hormuz, and energy supplies during a meeting on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. Pezeshkian said that US military movements and actions in the region are severely disrupting global energy supplies and markets.
