Under the patronage and attendance of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the first French Week in the State of Kuwait is inaugurated today, Wednesday, under the theme “France in Kuwait” at The Avenues Mall in the capital. The event marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Kuwait and the French Republic. It is attended by Olivier Goffard, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Kuwait, along with a group of ministers, sheikhs, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of French companies, officials, and public figures. The exhibition will continue on Thursday and Friday.
The launch of this prominent economic and cultural event follows the official visit made by French President Emmanuel Macron to Kuwait on October 19, 2026, during which he was received by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This visit constituted a major milestone crowning 65 years of established diplomatic and bilateral relations, witnessing the signing of numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of economy, defense, scientific research, and enhanced educational and cultural cooperation, as well as the exchange of expertise. These developments reflect the growing momentum and deep strategic partnership between the two countries.
The French Week sees broad participation from leading French companies operating in Kuwait, covering multiple sectors aimed at showcasing French expertise and advantages in culture, education, culinary arts, automobiles, high-tech industries, and corporate development, featuring well-known global brands.
In this context, Ahmed Ismail Bahbahani, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed by the event embodies the depth and history of Kuwaiti-French relations, and His Highness’s consistent commitment to supporting activities that strengthen the historical ties between the two friendly nations. He noted that today’s celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations reflects a long journey of friendship, cooperation, and exchange between the peoples of the two countries.
Bahbahani stated, “Kuwaiti-French relations represent a unique model of ties built on solid foundations of friendship and comprehensive cooperation, witnessing prominent milestones and continuous development across various political, economic, military, cultural, and educational fields.”
He pointed out that the visit of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to France in July 2025 – which was his first official visit since assuming the throne – followed by the recent visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Kuwait, deeply demonstrated the resilience of this partnership and reflected the shared will of the leaderships of both countries to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
Bahbahani clarified that the French Week is one of the most important economic and cultural activities and a key milestone in consolidating relations at all levels. He noted that its timing coincides with national occasions, granting it special significance and opening new horizons for institutions and companies in both countries.
He concluded by reaffirming the honorable historical positions of the French Republic and its steadfast support for the sovereignty, security, and stability of the State of Kuwait, ensuring that the relationship between the two countries remains a model of mutual respect and cooperation.
