Iranian media reported that talks have begun between Iranian officials and representatives of the Mecca Agreement countries in the Iranian capital, Tehran, as part of a meeting proposed by Pakistan. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman led the Kingdom’s delegation to the talks, alongside Pakistani Army Chief of Staff General Asim Munir and Turkish Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin. Iranian state television reported that discussions between Iran and the three signatories of the Mecca Agreement focused on regional cooperation, the US-Israeli aggression against Iran and its repercussions, as well as other issues. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Iran would not discuss its nuclear program until the United States responds to Tehran’s demands. For his part, President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country is ready to take steps toward regional cooperation, resolve differences, and support any understanding aimed at enhancing regional security. Saudi Arabia affirmed that the talks are part of ongoing efforts by the Mecca Agreement countries to de-escalate tensions among the parties to the crisis, encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and support mediation efforts by Qatar and Pakistan.
