The Hussein Cancer Center in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan honored the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in appreciation of its contributions to supporting the treatment of Syrian refugees suffering from cancer, during a ceremony held to mark the center’s 25th anniversary.
In a statement to KUNA yesterday, the Kuwait Fund said the honor recognizes the ongoing cooperation between the Fund and the center in providing medical care to Syrian refugees with cancer in Jordan, through financing diagnostic and therapeutic services that help alleviate the health and financial burdens on patients and their families.
The Fund added that it had granted nine grants to the center, totaling $11.3 million. It noted that the most recent grant agreement, signed last July, was worth $2 million to help cover the treatment costs of Syrian refugees with cancer in Jordan.
According to the Hussein Cancer Center, approximately 500 Syrian refugee patients have benefited from the Fund’s support over the years of cooperation, enabling them to access diagnostic, therapeutic, and follow-up medical services. The support also helped patients unable to afford treatment to start or continue their care without financial constraints hindering their access to necessary medical attention.
The Fund’s contributions covered laboratory tests, radiological imaging, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgical procedures, bone marrow transplants, palliative care, and urgent medical interventions, according to patients’ treatment needs.
Osama Al-Attal, Director of the Banking Department at the Kuwait Fund, received the honor at the ceremony, which was held under the patronage of King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein and Queen Rania Al-Abdullah in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the attendance of numerous officials, partners, and supporters of the center.
