The Kuwait Society of Accountants and Auditors participated in the 24th Annual Conference of Shariah Boards, hosted by the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) in the Kingdom of Bahrain, from October 11 to 12, 2026. The Society was represented at the conference by its Secretary-General and Board Member, Faisal Abdulmuhsin Al-Tabikh. Al-Tabikh noted that the conference featured a distinguished lineup of prominent international speakers and panelists, and provided an opportunity to exchange expertise and explore ways to enhance cooperation frameworks between the Society and AAOIFI. He described the conference as one of the most prestigious and influential global forums in the Islamic finance industry, having served for over two decades as a key platform for bridging differences in Shariah opinions and strengthening Shariah governance and compliance governance across the industry.
Al-Tabikh congratulated the newly appointed Board of Trustees of AAOIFI, chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Ibrahim bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Senior Advisor to the Amir’s Diwan, Dr. Sayed Mohammad Sayed Abdul Razzaq Al-Tabatabaei, on Dr. Al-Tabatabaei’s appointment as a member of the Board of Trustees, wishing them continued success and prosperity.
In his address, Sheikh Ibrahim bin Khalifa Al Khalifa emphasized the importance of the Shariah Boards Conference, highlighting its significant role in guiding the global Islamic finance industry over the past 23 years. He added that this year’s conference coincides with AAOIFI’s 35th anniversary, reflecting a journey marked by excellence and growth in shaping the future of Islamic finance worldwide.
The conference took place against the backdrop of growing international recognition of Islamic finance as a sustainable financial model grounded in established ethical principles. AAOIFI continues to play a pivotal role in developing and harmonizing Islamic finance practices, with its standards adopted or recognized by approximately 50 regulatory and supervisory authorities in more than 40 countries worldwide.
The conference program included five specialized sessions addressing several emerging contemporary fiqh and technical issues, including: aligning AAOIFI’s Shariah standards with legal systems; assessing the actual direct cost of lending; regulatory frameworks for dual-tranche Islamic and conventional financing; the impact of emerging circumstances on contracts and financial obligations; and debt settlement.
