The Ministry of Public Works announced the completion of 43 work orders, representing 100% of the total 53 road maintenance orders in the Capital Governorate, noting that work is ongoing on 10 orders across five areas. The ministry stated in a press release that the works covered 12 areas and 14 main roads, adding that the ministry, through its Road and Network Maintenance Department, continues radical road maintenance activities, including asphalt and curbs repairs and stormwater networks, all of which have been completed in the Faihaa area.
Meanwhile, the ministry received approval from the board of directors of the Central Tenders Board, by a majority of its members, during its meeting held on Wednesday, the 14th of the current month, to award the contract for sand removal from highways in the Northern Region to one of the bidders, with a total cost of 975,000 dinars. The tender is expected to be referred to the Court of Audit for review and audit, and to issue an opinion on approval, after which the contract will be signed in accordance with contractual requirements.
In a separate development, the board of directors of the Central Tenders Board decided to postpone the decision on awarding the contract for sand removal from highways in the Southern Region, valued at 960,000 dinars, pending the ministry’s submission of the required documents within 10 working days.
The issuance of these tenders comes as part of the ministry’s sustained efforts to maintain the efficiency of the road network, particularly highways, and to enhance road safety and protect property and lives. The accumulation of sand is a seasonal phenomenon that causes large quantities of sand to encroach on highways, potentially obstructing traffic flow and thereby increasing accident rates.
