Military clashes continue in Yemen across the fronts of Taiz and Lahj. The Yemeni Armed Forces announced that the total number of air and ground strikes carried out since the launch of Operation “Yemen Dawn,” with support from the coalition backing legitimacy, has exceeded 17,000 strikes. Meanwhile, several fronts have witnessed intense fighting concentrated around the city of Taiz and its southern and western areas.
The escalation has extended to residential areas and government sites, as Yemeni authorities in Marib accused the Houthis of shelling residential neighborhoods with ballistic missiles and other projectiles, warning of the consequences of targeting populated areas.
In Aden, the death toll from a missile attack targeting the Ma’ashiq Presidential Palace and the Al-Bariqa district west of the city rose to five dead and 16 wounded, according to Minister of Public Health Qasim Bihijab. Military movements continue to reinforce fronts and prevent Houthi advances toward Lahj and strategic areas overlooking the Bab al-Mandab strait.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council strongly condemned the ongoing and escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. The Council emphasized the need for full implementation of Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, and subsequent resolutions, calling for practical cooperation to prevent the Houthis from obtaining weapons, equipment, and assistance that enable them to continue their attacks, and reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s right to defend its security in accordance with international law.
Riyadh welcomed the Security Council statement, appreciating the solidarity of its members in confronting attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects on its territory, and reaffirming its right to take necessary measures to protect its security, citizens, and residents.
