The Commander of the General Fireforce, Major General Talal Mohammed Al-Roumi, affirmed that, on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, which falls on October 13 each year, the State of Kuwait, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, places great emphasis on strengthening the disaster risk management system and raising readiness and preparedness levels, thereby ensuring the protection of lives and property and safeguarding the nation’s assets and security.
Al-Roumi stressed that the State of Kuwait continues its efforts at the local level to develop its preventive and operational capacities and enhance coordination and integration among relevant authorities. Regionally and internationally, it is keen to consolidate cooperation and exchange expertise with sister and friendly countries, particularly the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, to bolster collective readiness to confront crises and disasters.
He added that the State of Kuwait continues its humanitarian role at the international level by supporting countries and peoples affected by disasters and backing international efforts aimed at reducing their risks, in line with the objectives of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.
He emphasized that disaster response is no longer limited to reacting after an event occurs; rather, it now focuses on anticipating risks and strengthening prevention and preparedness. He confirmed that the General Fireforce will continue to develop its human and technical capabilities, leverage modern technologies, and enhance national and international partnerships, aiming to establish an integrated system that achieves the highest levels of safety and security for society.
