Capital Governor Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah reviewed the development plan for East Fish Market, implemented by United Real Estate Company, with the aim of upgrading facilities and improving services while preserving the market’s historical identity and its status among Kuwait’s heritage markets.

This came during the Governor’s field visit, during which he listened to a briefing on the project’s stages and implementation mechanism, which includes setting up a temporary market to ensure the continuity of sales operations, developing infrastructure and service facilities, improving entry and exit traffic, and increasing the number of stalls from 214 to more than 240.

The temporary market is scheduled to be officially opened on Thursday, October 15, to begin receiving vendors and shoppers throughout the period of development works on the main market, ensuring uninterrupted commercial activity and continuous service provision to the public.

The Governor emphasized the Capital Governorate’s commitment to monitoring development and service projects, stressing the importance of coordination among relevant authorities to ensure implementation according to established plans, while taking into account the needs of stall owners and the continuity of their commercial activities.

He noted that East Fish Market is part of Kuwait’s historical memory and maritime heritage, underscoring the need to balance preserving its heritage character with keeping pace with development and modernization requirements.

The Governor commended the efforts of United Real Estate Company and the participating government entities, expressing hope that the development works would enhance the market’s facilities and elevate the experience of its visitors, in line with its historical significance.
