The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, affirmed that his country and the region have faced exceptional events that once again demonstrated the cohesion of state institutions, emphasizing that the national economy responded to the crisis’s repercussions with strength and resilience.

This came in a speech delivered during the opening of the second session of the second legislative term, which corresponds to the 55th annual session of the Qatar Shura Council.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stated that Qatar was subjected to an Iranian attack on its territory, in violation of its sovereignty, noting that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the damage to the Ras Laffan facilities led to the disruption of a significant portion of the state’s exports.

He clarified that Qatar accounts for approximately one-fifth of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, meaning any disruption affecting its exports has direct repercussions on markets and consumers. He affirmed that his country has fulfilled its responsibility to protect its sovereignty and honor its role in ensuring global energy security and economic stability.

He highlighted Doha’s contribution to efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and reopening waterways, stressing that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the preservation of their sovereignty are matters that cannot be compromised. He affirmed that Qatar has always adhered to resolving disputes through negotiation, diplomacy, and peaceful means, and will continue to work with sister countries and international partners to maintain the region’s security and stability.

On the economic front, the Emir of Qatar explained that the national economy confronted the current crisis with strength, achieving a high growth rate in 2025, attributing this to the policies adopted by the state prior to the crisis, which contributed to enhancing its capacity to absorb the repercussions.

He affirmed that Qatar will emerge from the crisis more resilient and better equipped to adapt to global changes.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani warned against the continued Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, affirming that what occurred in the Gaza Strip “is undeniably genocide,” and stressing the necessity of holding those responsible accountable and ensuring they do not escape punishment.

He also drew attention to the escalating attacks by settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank, stating that these occur under the protection of the Israeli army.
