Kuwait and France Discuss Enhancing Cooperation in International Arbitration

The First Advisor and Director of the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies, Badr Al-Musaed, emphasized the importance of legal and judicial cooperation between Kuwait and France in exchanging expertise and enhancing understanding between the two institutions, highlighting the role of legal comparisons in developing knowledge of practices and legislation. This came during a scientific seminar organized by the Institute in collaboration with the French Embassy in Kuwait on Sunday, titled “Arbitration in Kuwait and France: A Comparative Perspective,” on the occasion of International Law Day.

Al-Musaed clarified that arbitration represents one of the primary means of dispute resolution, particularly in international commercial and investment fields, noting that the expansion of cross-border transactions and the intertwining of economic and legal interests necessitate ongoing discussion regarding the frameworks governing this mechanism. He added that studying the Kuwaiti and French experiences allows for an understanding of the differences and intersections between the two legal systems, in terms of their historical development and legislative and judicial sources, thereby broadening the horizons of legal practitioners and helping them comprehend the diverse applications of arbitration.

He pointed out that the Institute is committed to organizing scientific meetings that support the exchange of knowledge and build bridges of communication between legal and judicial institutions, expressing his hope that the seminar would contribute to expanding areas of scientific and legal cooperation between Kuwait and France.

For his part, Dr. Said Maamar, Academic Cooperation Attaché at the French Embassy and Deputy Director of the French Institute, stressed the importance of comparing the Kuwaiti and French experiences in studying relevant legal frameworks and practices, noting that discussing common issues enhances communication between institutions and specialists in the legal field.

The seminar included a lecture delivered by Professor Walid Ben Hamida of the University of Lille in France, attended by a number of officials and specialists from both the Kuwaiti and French sides.
