One Year After Ceasefire... Occupation Launches Mini-War in Gaza

Tomorrow, October 10, 2026, marks the first anniversary of the declaration of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, at a time when Israel continues its war in a scaled-down manner, killing more Palestinians and destroying their homes under the pretext that Hamas refuses to disarm.

On the eve of the first anniversary of the fragile ceasefire, the Gaza Strip experienced a tense night that reminded thousands of its residents of the difficult days of war, after the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of residential blocks overnight. The aim was to bomb and destroy homes and residential buildings in the cities of Gaza and Khan Younis, resulting in the death of a child and a woman while they were attempting to evacuate homes to which families had fled.

Israeli warplanes bombed homes twice in a residential block in the Kataeb area north of the Al-Amal neighborhood in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip. This led to the destruction and severe damage of several homes and displaced hundreds of Palestinians who lost their only shelter.

Israeli warplanes also destroyed two residential buildings, one of which contained apartments housing displaced persons in the Sabra neighborhood south of Gaza City. This occurred after the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of the entire residential block surrounding the building. However, some families did not have enough time to evacuate, leading to the death of a child and a woman from the Abu Asir family, who were displaced from the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, and the injury of at least seven citizens, including a journalist who left his camera and sought to help residents evacuate their homes.

The second building was destroyed in the Old City of Gaza, west of the Shuja'iyya neighborhood and north of the Zaytun neighborhood, after an order was issued to evacuate the building and its surrounding area entirely.

Palestinians noted that Israeli warplanes fired several missiles at the targeted buildings in Gaza City specifically, but they failed to detonate. This led to repeated attacks, causing a state of extreme fear and panic among residents amid the intense flying of aircraft that generated significant noise.

The raids caused the displacement and internal displacement of hundreds of Palestinians residing in those residential blocks, who found no other shelter. They were forced to spend the night in hospital courtyards, shelter centers, or at the homes of their relatives.
