Kuwait reaffirmed its firm and supportive stance toward United Nations efforts aimed at ending colonialism in all its forms and manifestations, based on its firm belief in the right of peoples to self-determination and the necessity for states to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter and the provisions of international law. This was stated in Kuwait’s address delivered by Diplomatic Attaché Mohammed Al-Mulla before the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) of the UN General Assembly.
Al-Mulla emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains one of the most prominent issues requiring serious international action to end the occupation and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights, foremost among which is the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He reiterated Kuwait’s condemnation of Israeli occupation violations against the Palestinian people and its firm rejection of settlement, annexation, and displacement policies, while affirming support for the legitimate and historical rights of the Palestinian people, including their rights in East Jerusalem.
He stressed the necessity of adhering to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and providing the necessary conditions for recovery and reconstruction, thereby paving the way for a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace.
Regarding regional developments, Al-Mulla condemned attacks targeting Kuwait and the territories of several sister states, reiterating Kuwait’s rejection of any actions that threaten the security and stability of the region’s states, and emphasizing the importance of the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
He reaffirmed Kuwait’s firm position supporting the sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates over its three islands—Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa—as well as its territorial waters, airspace, continental shelf, and exclusive economic zone. He clarified that any Iranian measures or practices concerning the three islands are null and void and do not alter historical and legal facts, calling for the peaceful resolution of the dispute through direct negotiations or referral to the International Court of Justice.
He also stressed the importance of guaranteeing freedom of international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the necessity of halting any practices that could obstruct ship movements or threaten the flow of international trade.
On the issue of the Sahara, Al-Mulla affirmed Kuwait’s support for UN efforts, including those of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, to reach a realistic, practical, and lasting political solution acceptable to all parties. He reiterated Kuwait’s support for the autonomy initiative proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco and welcomed UN Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025).
Al-Mulla concluded by reaffirming Kuwait’s support for UN efforts to end colonialism, enhance the rights of peoples to self-determination, and achieve peaceful resolutions to conflicts, thereby contributing to the consolidation of security, stability, and respect for international law.
