Public Works Ministry Raises Readiness to Handle Rainwater Accumulation

Public Works Minister Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan stressed the need to enhance preparedness and coordination among relevant authorities to ensure swift handling of rainwater accumulations and emergency situations during the rainy season. This came during her chairing of a meeting of the Rainfall and Flash Flood Impacts Committee, attended by committee members and representatives of relevant entities, where preparedness plans for the season and mechanisms for dealing with rainfall events and emergency developments were reviewed.

During the meeting, Al-Mashaan reviewed the readiness of field teams, equipment, and machinery at various sites, along with action plans and procedures for addressing potential water accumulations. The meeting also reviewed climate forecasts for the coming period, which indicate a likelihood of rainfall amounts higher than usual during October, November, and December, necessitating enhanced preparedness and improved field response efficiency.

Preparedness measures included cleaning rainwater drainage inlets and networks, ensuring the readiness of pumping stations, and identifying necessary procedures for dealing with sites that may experience water accumulations during rainfall events. The meeting also discussed the roles of participating entities and mechanisms for joint coordination, as well as emergency plans and operational procedures for addressing the impacts of rainfall and flash floods, emphasizing continued monitoring and rapid response to any developments during the season.
