The General Secretariat of Awqaf announced the launch of the 29th edition of the Kuwait Grand Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition, under the gracious patronage of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
In a press conference held yesterday, Tuesday, Acting General Secretary of the General Secretariat of Awqaf, Engineer Nasser Al-Khudair, said that the competition represents a fundamental aspect of the Secretariat’s mission to support the care of the Holy Quran and its sciences. It constitutes one of the ways to translate the objectives of waqf into initiatives that serve society and encourage Kuwaiti boys and girls to connect with the Holy Quran.
He clarified that the Waqf Fund for the Holy Quran and its sciences plays a role in transforming this care into areas of social benefit, noting that the competition embodies the convergence of waqf work objectives with the efforts of Quran memorizers.
For his part, Abdulaziz Al-Anzi, Vice Chairman of the Competition’s Standing Committee, stated that the competition has experienced continuous growth and development since its inception, highlighting an increase in the number of participating entities to 56 from both the public and private sectors.
He added that the current edition includes new tracks and updates, most notably the addition of the “15 Juz” category to the “Al-Khair wa Al-Baraka” competition, and the completion of categories for reform institutions up to 30 Juz, alongside the adoption of recitation rules questions based on practical application of rulings and performance.
He pointed out the elimination of theoretical questions during the exams to facilitate participation, reaffirming the Standing Committee’s commitment to continuously developing the competition’s mechanisms.
The competition covers diverse categories, including seniors, kindergarten children, persons with special needs, residents of social care homes, and inmates of reform institutions and juvenile centers. It also includes the recognition of the “Quranic Family” award, honoring families that have contributed to raising their children to memorize the Holy Quran.
