Kuwait’s Undersecretary of Oil, Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malki Al-Sabah, affirmed in Manama on Monday that the decisions and recommendations adopted by ministers at the 37th meeting of the Cooperation Committee for the Petroleum Industries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries reflect a Gulf-wide trend toward enhancing preparedness and improving coordination efficiency in responding to the rapid changes characterizing the energy sector, and advancing shared files toward clearer implementation and follow-up pathways.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Oil and received by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malki Al-Sabah said the significance of the meeting’s outcomes stems from the diversity and interconnectivity of the issues addressed, which combine supply security and emergency preparedness on one hand, and dealing with international organizational and commercial transformations on the other, reflecting the broadening scope of challenges that require continuous GCC coordination at both technical and executive levels.
He added that developing the regional emergency plan for petroleum products represents an important pathway to enhance Gulf preparedness by raising the level of coordination among competent authorities, developing communication mechanisms, information exchange, contact points, and standardized templates for handling emergencies, thereby supporting the speed and efficiency of response in the event of any disruptions that may affect supplies and supply chains.
He pointed out that cross-border legislation and measures have become an increasingly important dimension in energy files, necessitating a shift from merely monitoring such legislation to evaluating its actual economic and commercial impacts on companies and the interests of GCC member states, and enhancing coordination among energy, trade, and international negotiation stakeholders.
He emphasized that Kuwait will continue its active participation in specialized committees and working groups, and will work with member states and the GCC Secretariat General to follow up on the implementation of the decisions and recommendations adopted by the meeting, thereby strengthening the preparedness of the Gulf energy sector and its capacity to deal efficiently with regional and international developments.
Sheikh Dr. Nemer Fahad Al-Malki Al-Sabah’s participation came as part of the State of Kuwait delegation attending the meeting, led by Oil Minister Tariq Al-Roumi, and including Sheikh Tamadur Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Director of the Public Relations and Petroleum Media Department; Omar Al-Wasmi, Director of Planning and International Relations at the Ministry of Oil; and Nasser Al-Namshan, head of the Office of the Chairman of the Board team at Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
