Kuwaiti schools celebrated International Teachers’ Day yesterday morning, marking the annual observance on October 5, by organizing a number of educational activities and events that reflected appreciation for the teacher’s role in building generations and advancing the educational process.
On this occasion, schools held ceremonies to honor teachers, recognizing their efforts and contributions in the educational field, alongside organizing cultural and educational competitions and diverse student performances, in which students participated to express their gratitude to their teachers for the efforts they make throughout their educational journey.
The celebration of International Teachers’ Day reaffirms the importance of the educational mission carried by teachers and acknowledges their contributions in preparing national cadres and developing individuals, who are the foundation of development and progress in society.
Yesterday, Minister of Education Sayed Jalal Al-Tabatabaei emphasized that the teacher’s role extends beyond transmitting knowledge to shaping individuals, forming awareness, instilling values, awakening aspirations, and refining future leaders.
Speaking to KUNA on the occasion of International Teachers’ Day, Minister Al-Tabatabaei noted that in a world where knowledge accelerates and artificial intelligence technologies evolve, the teacher retains an irreplaceable human role. It is the teacher who believes in students’ capabilities, guides their thinking, strengthens their self-confidence, and instills in them a sense of belonging and responsibility.
He congratulated teachers on this occasion, saying: “I convey to you all expressions of appreciation and pride, and I honor in you a noble mission that has had and will continue to have the greatest impact on building individuals and the renaissance of nations.”
He added: “This day is not merely an occasion to celebrate teachers, but a moment of loyalty and appreciation for those who have made their knowledge and dedication a mission, who view every student as a trust, and who see every success achieved by their students as an extension of their impact and mission.”
He further stated that a teacher’s impact is not measured solely by what they provide within the classroom, but by what remains of them in their students’ lives years later and in every achievement those students make for their country. From this conviction, we place teacher empowerment and development at the core of the educational development process, viewing the teacher as an integral partner in shaping change and building Kuwait’s future.
He continued: “On this cherished occasion, I call on Kuwaiti male and female teachers to continue their dedication with determination and sincerity, and to keep their love for Kuwait and sense of belonging to it as a driving force for further giving and achievement, guided by the wisdom of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, and in light of the support and attention our political leadership affords to education and human development.”
The Minister of Education expressed his gratitude “to every teacher,” saying: “Thank you to every good seed you plant in our children’s hearts, to every mind you enlighten, to every aspiration you awaken, and to every generation you help prepare to carry the trust of this nation.”
He added: “Kuwait deserves the best from all of us, and your mission will remain a pillar of its renaissance, your impact present in its generations, and your dedication extending into its future.”
Visit to students to ensure their well-being
On another note, and as part of the Ministry of Education’s follow-up on developments regarding the incident in which several female students at a secondary school for girls suffered from suffocation, Minister of Education Eng. During the visit, Minister Al-Tabatabaei emphasized that the health and safety of students are the Ministry of Education’s top priorities, stressing the continued monitoring of the students’ health conditions, ensuring their well-being, and coordinating with relevant authorities to guarantee the provision of necessary care.
In the context of measures taken by the Ministry following the incident, the Minister ordered the suspension of the school administration for three months pending investigation, alongside appointing a new school management team to assume responsibility for the school and oversee operations, ensuring stability in the school environment and continuity of the educational process.
The Ministry of Education clarified that, based on preliminary investigations confirming the involvement of several female students in the incident, appropriate educational and regulatory measures were taken against them, in accordance with the provisions of the Comprehensive Regulatory Bylaws for Education at the Ministry of Education, after classifying their documented behaviors as serious behavioral violations.
The Ministry emphasized that the investigation into the incident remains ongoing to identify all causes and circumstances, and to precisely determine responsibilities, stressing that necessary measures will be taken against anyone whose responsibility or negligence is proven, in accordance with applicable systems and regulations, and based on the final results of the investigation.
The Ministry stressed that the implementation of these measures aims to safeguard the security and safety of students and the stability of the school environment, and to reinforce principles of discipline and accountability, emphasizing zero tolerance for any behavior that could compromise the security of the school community or the safety of its members.
The Ministry of Education expressed its profound gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Health, its officials, and the medical teams that handled the cases, commending the swift response, healthcare, and follow-up provided to the students since the incident, which exemplifies the integrated efforts of state institutions and their commitment to the health and safety of their citizens.
