The Kuwaiti Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute signed a memorandum of understanding today, Monday, with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) to enhance and develop cooperation in the fields of peace and regional and international security studies, and to exchange expertise and scientific and research knowledge between the two sides.

The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Kuwaiti side by Dr. Mubarak Al-Hajjari, Minister-Counselor and Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs for the Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute Affairs, and on behalf of SIPRI by its Director, Ambassador Karim Hujaj.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Hajjari said that the signing of the memorandum comes at a time when there is a growing need for specialized knowledge to understand the rapid transformations in the regional and international security environments. He emphasized the Institute’s commitment to ensuring that the training of Kuwaiti diplomatic cadres is based on an accurate reading of international developments and solid cooperation channels with specialized international research centers.

He added that the partnership with SIPRI will provide a practical space for exchanging expertise and developing programs and studies related to security, peace, and arms control issues, thereby contributing to supporting Kuwait’s diplomatic presence and enhancing its capacity to professionally handle contemporary international files and issues.

He clarified that the memorandum opens the door to organizing training programs and specialized seminars, exchanging experts and lecturers, as well as preparing joint studies and research on issues of mutual interest, thereby strengthening the link between diplomatic training and specialized research knowledge.

For his part, Director of SIPRI Ambassador Karim Hujaj expressed his appreciation for cooperation with the Kuwaiti Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute in a similar statement, noting that Kuwait represents a reliable partner in supporting dialogue, respecting international law, and promoting approaches aimed at consolidating security and stability in the region.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is an independent institution specializing in research related to conflicts, armaments, arms control, and disarmament. The Kuwaiti Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute, affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is responsible for preparing and training Kuwaiti diplomatic cadres and developing their knowledge and skills in areas related to diplomatic work.
