Kuwait officials, including Dr. Haider Bahbahani, Acting Dean of the College of Science at Kuwait University, affirmed yesterday that the Kuwait National Robotics Championship represents an investment in the potential of youth, contributing to the discovery, refinement, and preparation of their scientific and engineering talents for participation in international competitions and forums.
Speaking at a press conference during the launch of the fourth season of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship (KNRC) for the 2026-2027 academic year, Bahbahani stated that robotics competitions provide an applied environment that integrates theoretical knowledge with design, engineering, programming, and problem-solving, thereby enhancing critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation skills. He emphasized that supporting such initiatives is an investment in youth potential, bolstering their readiness to cope with rapid advancements in technology, artificial intelligence, and engineering. He reaffirmed Kuwait University’s and the College of Science’s commitment to providing an environment that fosters innovation and applied learning.
Bahbahani praised the role of the Computer Science Department at the College of Science in launching and sustaining the championship, noting its growing presence across Kuwait. He underscored the importance of partnerships between academic institutions, government entities, and the private sector in supporting youth-oriented initiatives. He noted that Kuwait University, represented by the Computer Science Department at the College of Science, organizes the championship in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Public Authority for Youth and Sports. He added that the previous edition saw the participation of approximately 150 teams and over 600 students from various age groups.
The championship features several applied competitions linked to global events, most notably the VEX Robotics competition, which qualifies participating teams for the World Championship in the United States, as well as the Aerial Drone Competition, which qualifies participants for global contests, and the Open Innovation Competition. Registration for participation remains open from today until the 30th of the current month.
For her part, Noura Al-Mutairi, a chemistry technical coordinator at the Ministry of Education, stated in a press statement that launching the championship through a partnership between the public and private sectors embodies the importance of strategic cooperation in supporting students, nurturing their potential and creativity, and equipping them with essential future skills, thereby helping to prepare a generation capable of innovation and competition on various platforms.
