President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council

The Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council announced yesterday the commencement of military operations to reclaim the remaining Yemeni territories and reassert state authority across the entire country, after diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions with the Iran-backed Houthi militia had been exhausted. Rashad al-Alimi’s speech appears, overall, as a message of reassurance to the Yemeni people; however, the situation on the ground reflects a back-and-forth struggle between government forces and the Houthis, with each side claiming gains and control over various positions. The conflict will not be resolved quickly, nor will it be settled without significant losses. Supporting the Aden-based government is essential to eliminating the Iran-backed Houthi terrorism.
