Qatar's Al-Shahaniya Club Reaches Agreement to Sign Riyad Mahrez

Al-Shamal, a Qatari club, has reached an agreement to sign Algerian star Riyad Mahrez on a free transfer. Sources confirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the player will be registered for domestic competitions as well as the AFC Champions League Elite, making the Algerian star the latest high-profile arrival in the Qatari league. The sources indicated that Mahrez’s contract with Al-Shamal will be short-term, with an option for the player to terminate it in January, alongside a clause allowing for an extension of one additional year. Mahrez spent three years at Al-Ahli, leaving a significant mark with the club and helping lead them to back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite titles, two major achievements for the Saudi side, while also establishing himself as one of the competition’s standout artistic talents in recent seasons.
