The Ministry of Health launched a specialized training workshop to enhance the skills of its staff in data analysis and its application in planning and decision-making, through training on the “Microsoft Power BI” program, with the participation of more than 20 employees from the External Health Sector and its affiliated entities.

The three-day workshop is organized by the General Administration of External Health Affairs and International Health Relations in collaboration with the Digital Health Sector, as part of the Ministry’s strategy to expand the use of digital tools and improve the efficiency of national cadres in handling data.

Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services Dr. Hisham Kalander told KUNA that developing health services begins with accurately understanding patients’ needs, adding that enhancing employees’ capabilities in reading and analyzing data helps identify priorities and direct development efforts toward areas with the greatest impact on service levels.

He clarified that digital transformation is not limited to introducing modern systems and technologies, but also includes developing work methods and leveraging information for planning and decision-making, emphasizing the External Health Sector’s commitment to strengthening integration with the Digital Health Sector and utilizing technology to improve the efficiency of procedures and follow-up.

Kalander added that investing in employees is a central pillar in work development, by equipping them with digital and analytical skills alongside their practical experience, thereby preparing cadres for future work requirements and cementing a culture of continuous learning and development.

He pointed out that the actual value of data is not realized merely by collecting numbers, but by the employee’s ability to analyze them and extract indicators that help identify needs and priorities, support officials with clear information during planning and decision-making, as well as measure performance, monitor development outcomes, and identify areas for improvement.

He revealed the External Health Sector’s intention to launch specialized digital platforms in the fields of overseas treatment, agreements, organizations, insurance and health security, and international health relations.

For his part, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Nahdi, Director of the Insurance and Health Security Department, said that organizing specialized courses is part of efforts to develop the health system and keep pace with the Ministry’s shift toward digital transformation, noting that the workshop focuses on handling big data and utilizing advanced analytical tools such as “Microsoft Power BI” to support decision-making.

Al-Nahdi explained that the administration possesses a broad data base, which necessitates developing the skills of national cadres in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data accurately to decision-makers, adding that the training program includes practical applications using real data from the administration, thereby enhancing employee readiness and supporting the development of the institutional work environment.
