Kuwait National Team Coach at (Gulf Cup 27): Our Goal Is to Build a Generation Capable of Competing and Developing in Future Tournaments

Kuwait national team coach Helio Sousa said on Monday that the technical staff’s goal is not to win one or two matches, but to build a team capable of triumphing in tournaments, emphasizing the need to focus on the present and develop a generation able to compete and progress in upcoming competitions.

At a press conference ahead of Kuwait’s match against Oman in the 27th Gulf Cup of Arab Nations, Sousa stated that the technical staff is working to raise the level of the “Blue Team” and narrow the gap with other national sides. He noted that the Saudi league is among the best, featuring high-caliber players alongside Saudis competing in Europe, and highlighted that Gulf teams such as Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are participating in international competitions, underscoring the necessity of acknowledging these differences and working to overcome them.

Sousa pointed out that Kuwait’s squad includes young players capable of delivering more in future tournaments, stressing the importance of supporting them and helping them improve day by day, rather than focusing solely on results without considering playing style and performance levels.

He added that the technical staff works around the clock to develop the national team, acknowledging that results may not always meet expectations, which is a normal aspect of football. He questioned whether the criticism would have been the same had Kuwait converted one of its chances against Iraq and secured a victory.

Sousa affirmed that the players are giving their all to achieve the best possible outcome, assuring Kuwaiti fans that efforts will continue to develop the “Blue Team” and build a side capable of competing and delivering the desired results in upcoming competitions.
