Deputy Minister of Justice: Combating crime is a comprehensive responsibility based on international cooperation and national legislation
Deputy Minister of Justice, Ms. Awatif Abdul Latif Al-Sane, affirmed that international efforts to prevent and combat crime represent a shared responsibility among nations, grounded in strengthening international cooperation and relevant conventions, alongside developing supportive national legislation to address crimes in all their forms.
This statement was part of Kuwait’s address delivered by Al-Sane at the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. She participated alongside Advisor at the Court of Appeal, Saud Yousef Al-Sane.
Al-Sane highlighted the importance of the Congress as a cornerstone for shaping international policies and setting directions in the fight against crime and mitigating its repercussions, particularly in light of emerging crimes and evolving modus operandi.
She explained that, within the framework of its “Kuwait 2035” vision, the State of Kuwait has adopted several policies and legislations aimed at strengthening the crime prevention and combat system. These include laws addressing drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, domestic violence, beneficial ownership, and commercial concealment.
She added that Kuwait has paid special attention to combating cybercrimes and transnational crimes through the issuance of the Law on Combating Information Technology Crimes, supporting international initiatives to counter illegal electronic uses, and regulating digital trade while protecting consumer rights.
Al-Sane also emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing its legislative framework in areas such as mutual legal assistance, and the fight against terrorism, money laundering, and terrorist financing, through specialized national legislations and mechanisms that support the effectiveness of cooperation at both local and international levels.
In conclusion, Al-Sane expressed Kuwait’s hope that the Congress’s proceedings would contribute to reaching understandings and decisions that strengthen international cooperation in preventing and combating crime and achieving criminal justice, thereby consolidating security and safety for peoples.
The Congress is held at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi from September 26 to October 1, 2026, with broad participation from countries, international organizations, and experts, under a theme focused on accelerating action in crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law in the digital age.
