The Public Authority for Environment announced on Sunday that environmental conservation is a shared societal responsibility that requires cooperation and participation in initiatives that directly contribute to preserving natural resources and enhancing their sustainability for current and future generations.

Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, the official spokesperson for the Authority and Director of the Public Relations and Media Department, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of World Cleanup Day, which falls on September 20 each year, that this day represents an opportunity to emphasize the importance of environmental conservation and to entrench a culture of cleanliness and environmental volunteerism in Kuwait.

Al-Ibrahim clarified that environmental conservation requires concerted efforts to curb various sources of pollution, ensure proper waste management, and reduce plastic waste and other pollutants that may adversely affect the environment and its components.

She noted that the Authority places great emphasis on environmental awareness and education, working to support efforts aimed at reducing pollution and maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces through awareness programs. Additionally, it monitors compliance with environmental laws and regulations and collaborates with various entities and institutions to implement environmental initiatives and campaigns.

She mentioned that cleanup campaigns, including coastal cleanups, constitute one of the important initiatives for enhancing environmental awareness, as they combine fieldwork with direct education and contribute to entrenching a culture of environmental conservation.

She added that the State of Kuwait possesses a diverse natural environment, and preserving it requires sustained environmental efforts and strengthened partnerships among government entities, the private sector, civil society organizations, and volunteers, alongside raising awareness among all segments of society.

She underscored the importance of enhancing environmental awareness and encouraging members of society to adopt positive behaviors and sustainable practices, such as not littering in public places, reducing the use of plastic materials, and refraining from disposing of them in the sea, in order to mitigate the impacts of pollution and preserve natural resources and wildlife and marine life.
