Egypt recovers golden mummy mask from Switzerland

Egypt announced yesterday the recovery of an ancient golden mummy mask from Switzerland, as part of ongoing efforts to repatriate Egyptian antiquities that were illicitly exported. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that Egyptian Ambassador to Bern Mohamed Nagib received the artifact from Swiss authorities on behalf of Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation Badr Abdelatty. The statement highlighted the close and growing cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland across various fields, foremost among them the protection of cultural property and the fight against illicit trafficking in antiquities. In this context, it affirmed both countries’ commitment to enhancing coordination and exchanging expertise in this area, and to combating the illicit smuggling and trade of antiquities, thereby contributing to the preservation of cultural and civilizational heritage and its protection from all forms of exploitation and illegal trade.
