Houthi attacks transcend military dimensions, targeting Islamic sanctities
The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces intercepted and destroyed an enemy drone launched by the Houthi terrorist militias before it entered the prohibited airspace over the Holy Capital, Makkah Al-Mukarramah. The hostile drone was destroyed south of the city of Makkah.
Lieutenant General Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, stated in a statement that “the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and destroyed an enemy drone launched by the Houthi terrorist militias before it entered the prohibited airspace over the Holy Capital, Makkah Al-Mukarramah. The hostile drone was intercepted south of the city of Makkah.”
Lieutenant General Al-Maliki clarified that “this hostile and terrorist attempt marks the second instance of targeting Makkah Al-Mukarramah, following the first attempt involving the launch of a ballistic missile on July 27, 2017. Such actions can only be described as despicable attempts to target the site of divine revelation, the land of the message, and the destination of the hearts of millions of Muslims from various countries. It is also an attempt to terrorize the safe guests of the Holy House of Allah and harm citizens and residents. Furthermore, this hostile attempt will remain a black mark in the record of violations by the extremist Houthi terrorist militias, as it constitutes a deliberate act aimed at provoking the sentiments of millions of Muslims.”
Lieutenant General Al-Maliki affirmed that the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the guests of the Merciful is a red line, emphasizing that the leadership of the Coalition’s Joint Forces will not hesitate to take necessary and deterrent measures against the Houthi terrorist militia and its hostile and terrorist behavior.
Arabic, Islamic, and international condemnations have followed the attacks carried out by the Houthi group using missiles and drones against civilians, civilian facilities, and Islamic sanctuaries in Saudi Arabia, amid assurances of full solidarity with the Kingdom and rejection of targeting its territory and violating its sovereignty.
Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates condemned the Houthi attacks, affirming their support for Saudi Arabia in all legitimate measures it takes to safeguard its sovereignty and security, and rejecting the targeting of civilians and civilian and economic facilities.
Arab positions stressed the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning of the repercussions of escalation on regional security and stability.
For his part, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), condemned in the strongest terms the “sinful terrorist attacks” that the Houthi militia continues to commit against Saudi Arabia, and its deliberate and repeated targeting of civilian sites and civilians with ballistic missiles and drones, describing the escalation as a “serious criminal act” that confirms the militia’s terrorist approach.
