Saudi Arabia reaffirms its legitimate right to self-defense and protection of its sovereignty
Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the ongoing, despicable, and deliberate attacks by the Houthi terrorist militia on civilian infrastructure and civilians in the Kingdom. It reaffirmed that the security of the country, the integrity of its territory, and its assets are a firm principle that tolerates no violation, and that its legitimate right to self-defense, the protection of its sovereignty, citizens, residents, and vital interests, is in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.
Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman briefed the cabinet during a meeting held in Jeddah on the content of a phone call he received from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and on the outcomes of his meeting with U.S. Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper. The discussions included a review of recent developments in the region with both parties.
Following the meeting, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dosari stated that the cabinet monitored developments in the region and worldwide, as well as Saudi efforts to consolidate peace and security through dialogue in managing international issues and supporting cooperation with the international community, including its bodies and organizations, to enhance collective responses to shared global challenges.
The cabinet discussed the outcomes of Saudi Arabia’s participation, as an invited country, in the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, India. The summit emphasized Saudi interest in strengthening communication with various countries worldwide regarding areas of mutual cooperation that serve development, stability, and prosperity, and support the capacity of international systems to fulfill their responsibilities.
The cabinet also addressed Saudi Arabia’s reaffirmation at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that the Kingdom has, over decades, solidified its position as a reliable energy source and an active partner in stabilizing global markets. This is pursued alongside advancing the construction of a diversified and sustainable national energy mix, including the addition of nuclear energy within a robust regulatory framework aligned with international commitments.
The cabinet welcomed participants in the fourth edition of the UNESCO Global Forum on AI Ethics, hosted by the Kingdom, as part of its ongoing efforts to support multilateral international dialogue on emerging technologies and its firm commitment to promoting the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence and protecting human values, in order to build an inclusive and sustainable digital future.
