Strategic Cooperation Between 'Development and Sustainability' and 'Applied Science'

State Minister for Development and Sustainability, Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, and Director General of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET), Dr. Hassan Al-Fajam, held a coordination meeting to discuss a strategic partnership aimed at embedding sustainability as a measurable institutional practice within the applied education and training system.

In a press statement on Monday, PAAET said the two sides discussed implementing the government’s environmental sustainability reporting system across the authority’s colleges, institutes, and facilities, including measuring energy, water, and waste indicators, resource consumption, and building a documented database to support decision-making and identify improvement opportunities.

The statement added that the meeting reviewed existing educational outputs to integrate sustainability standards into curricula and to direct a portion of research and graduation projects toward national priorities and initiatives determined in coordination with the ministry.

It clarified that the meeting also addressed gradually transforming the authority’s facilities into an applied sustainability model by enhancing energy and water efficiency, waste sorting, measuring environmental impact, and preparing an institutional sustainability report, alongside activating community service and lifelong learning programs, sustainability ambassadors and clubs, volunteer initiatives, and green entrepreneurship.

The statement noted efforts to develop indicators and digital monitoring dashboards and to support green building trends in the authority’s future projects. It further stated that agreement was reached to translate these pathways into an organized cooperation framework encompassing joint initiatives and clear indicators for monitoring and impact measurement.
