Qatar Embassy in Kuwait joins the "Together to Protect Education" campaign
The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Kuwait joined the global campaign “Together to Protect Education,” led by the organization “Education Above All,” coinciding with the International Day for Protecting Education from Attack, observed annually on September 9. The initiative aims to strengthen international efforts to safeguard students, teachers, and educational facilities in conflict and crisis zones.
This participation comes amid escalating attacks targeting the education sector worldwide. A report titled “Education Under Attack 2026,” issued by the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack, documented no fewer than 8,566 incidents involving attacks on education and the military use of schools and universities during 2024 and 2025. This represents an increase of over 40 percent compared to the previous period, during which at least 10,600 students, teachers, professors, and education sector staff were harmed.
The Embassy emphasized that these figures reflect the widening scope of the threat to the right to education, and that targeting educational institutions has repercussions that extend beyond immediate losses, affecting the future of individuals and communities and their capacity for recovery and stability.
Qatar previously led international efforts to adopt September 9 as the International Day for Protecting Education from Attack. In 2020, the United Nations General Assembly approved the resolution with the support of 62 countries, in a move aimed at raising international awareness of the risks faced by children, teachers, and educational institutions in conflict zones, and reinforcing principles of protection and accountability.
In this context, Qatar continues to support international initiatives aimed at ensuring the continuity of education during crises, through its national institutions and international partnerships, foremost among them the “Education Above All” Foundation, which leads the “Together to Protect Education” campaign to enhance international protection of education and reduce impunity for related violations.
Ali bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Qatar’s Ambassador to Kuwait, stated that “protecting students, teachers, schools, and universities is a shared responsibility that requires preventive action, preparedness, effective response, and strengthened accountability, so that wars and conflicts do not result in the permanent deprivation of an entire generation of its right to learn and build its future.”
The Embassy stressed that protecting education requires moving from condemnation to practical measures, including preventing attacks on schools and universities, respecting international law and international humanitarian law, monitoring and documenting violations, enhancing accountability, and supporting affected learners and teachers, alongside investing in education systems capable of withstanding crises.
It highlighted the importance of leveraging technology and innovative educational solutions to ensure learning continuity in emergency situations, noting that protecting education is not limited to securing buildings and facilities, but extends to safeguarding the future of generations, strengthening community resilience, and creating the necessary conditions for peace and development.
The Embassy called on the international community, governments, educational institutions, international and humanitarian organizations, and local communities to renew their commitment to protecting education from attacks, support students and teachers affected by conflicts, ensure the continuity of the educational process in emergencies, and strengthen monitoring, documentation, and accountability mechanisms, thereby guaranteeing respect for the fundamental right to education and preventing children from being deprived of it due to wars and conflicts.
The Embassy’s participation in the global campaign “Together to Protect Education” aligns with Qatar’s support for international efforts to protect education and ensure its continuity during crises and conflicts.
