The Scientific Center Organizes “Environmental Dialogues 2026” to Enhance Awareness and Sustainability in Kuwait
The Scientific Center, one of the centers under the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, organized the “Environmental Dialogues 2026” event yesterday in collaboration with the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs and with the participation of various government, academic, research entities, and organizations concerned with environmental issues.
In a press statement, Scientific Center Director General Engineer Muaid Al-Yassin said the event stems from the Center’s role in promoting scientific and environmental culture and providing a platform that brings together specialists, experts, and relevant stakeholders to exchange knowledge and experiences and discuss the most prominent issues and challenges facing Kuwait’s environment.
Al-Yassin added that the event focuses on three main pillars reflecting the nature of the country’s environment: the desert, coastal, and marine environments, along with related topics such as climate change, conservation of natural habitats, biodiversity, pollution, and sustainability.
He clarified that the event highlights the importance of integrating roles among government, scientific, academic, and research institutions, and strengthening partnerships that contribute to translating scientific knowledge into practical practices and initiatives supporting national efforts in environmental protection.
He noted that preserving the desert, coastal, and marine environments is a shared responsibility requiring knowledge, awareness, and coordinated efforts, pointing out that “Environmental Dialogues 2026” aims to bring scientific knowledge closer to society and open a space for dialogue among experts, specialists, and relevant stakeholders.
He explained that the event is part of the Center’s continuous efforts to enhance cooperation with national entities concerned with the environment and to affirm the importance of scientific dialogue and experience exchange in raising awareness of environmental issues and supporting initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and preserving Kuwait’s natural resources.
For her part, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, Nouf Bahbahani, stated that enhancing environmental work requires a clear vision based on science and effective dialogue that keeps pace with the developments and challenges of the coming phase and supports the shift toward more sustainable solutions.
In a similar press statement, Bahbahani added that this strengthens Kuwait’s efforts to protect the environment and conserve its resources, and realizes its aspirations for a sustainable future for coming generations.
For her part, Dr. Lujain Al-Sayegh, Head of the Sea Water Monitoring Department at the Environment Authority, told KUNA that she delivered a lecture titled “From Monitoring to Response” during the event, discussing how the Authority monitors the state of the marine environment and the role of environmental monitoring in protecting and sustaining the country’s marine environment.
Al-Sayegh added that the lecture also addressed the importance of Kuwait’s marine environment and its diversity, the main natural and anthropogenic pressures it faces, and the importance of regular monitoring in early detection of changes and pollution and supporting decision-making.
She noted that the lecture outlined the operational mechanism of the Authority’s sea water monitoring system, the most important periodic and specialized monitoring programs, and the mechanisms for measuring water quality indicators both in the field and in laboratories, leading to handling and responding to reports and incidents of marine pollution in coordination with relevant state entities.
She pointed out that the lecture presented real-life examples of marine pollution cases witnessed in Kuwait, illustrating how monitoring data and reports are transformed from indicators and measurements into actions that contribute to protecting the marine environment.
