Ministry of Transport approves "Smart Home Detention" for violating vehicles starting September 6

The General Directorate of Traffic announced the launch of the smart home impoundment system for vehicles subject to impoundment under approved regulations and procedures, effective Sunday, September 6, 2026, as part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to develop the operational framework and leverage modern technologies and smart systems to enhance traffic services.
The Directorate clarified that the executive procedures require installing the device on the vehicle at the location where the violation occurred, with the impoundment period starting at 12:00 midnight on the same day, allowing the driver sufficient time to transport the vehicle to the designated home impoundment site. The device installation fee is 10 dinars, plus a daily ground fee of 2 dinars for each day of impoundment. The system also allows for converting currently impounded vehicles from the Traffic Directorate’s impound lot to the smart home impoundment system to complete the remaining period, ensuring maximum flexibility and convenience.
The Directorate noted that upon completion of the impoundment period, the vehicle owner will receive an official notification via the government “Sahel” app confirming the end of the specified period, after which they must visit one of the locations designated by the General Directorate of Traffic to complete the formal release procedures for the vehicle. The Directorate emphasized the necessity for all drivers to comply with traffic laws and regulations to avoid violations, safeguard road users’ safety, and protect traffic safety in the country.
