Al-Huwail: Referral of allegations of harm to public funds at the Disability Authority to the Public Prosecution

Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwail, announced the referral of facts and allegations concerning damage to public funds at the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities to the Public Prosecution, to take legal action against a number of officials and employees.

Al-Huwail told KUNA that this referral is the second within a week, and comes as part of the continued approach of oversight, accountability, and protection of public funds. She explained that the measure followed the findings of an investigation committee into violations related to maintenance works and contracts, which revealed that payments had been made for quantities and works that were not fully implemented in reality. She noted that the value of the damage under investigation was estimated at approximately 1.211 million Kuwaiti dinars, equivalent to about 3.95 million US dollars.

She emphasized that protecting public funds is a responsibility that allows for no leniency, stressing that all violations involving criminal suspicion will follow their legal course, alongside the adoption of necessary administrative measures and efforts to recover any amounts paid without justification, while safeguarding the rights of the Authority and public funds.

Al-Huwail stressed that accountability will extend to anyone proven to be negligent or responsible, regardless of their position, affirming the continuation of oversight activities to ensure integrity and proper management of public funds.
