Oman and Iran: Temporary shipping lane in Hormuz

Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi visited Iran, where he held consultations with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. A joint statement clarified that the consultations focused on the importance both countries attach to resuming safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, in a manner that safeguards their sovereignty and sovereign rights. The two ministers discussed a phased framework that would provide a practical and implementable basis, given the current situation in the strait resulting from the recent war and its tragic repercussions. The proposed framework includes establishing a temporary joint navigation corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and agreeing to implement a joint project to clear the strait of mines.
