Minister of Electricity Inspects Project to Deploy Artificial Intelligence in Smart Meters

The Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Dr. Sabih Al-Mukhaima, emphasized the importance of leveraging innovative ideas and projects that support the ministry’s plans in the areas of digital transformation, energy efficiency, and consumption rationalization, in line with the state’s direction toward sustainability and innovation.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Electricity following his meeting yesterday, Thursday, with the team participating in the “2026 Korea AI in Action Program” aimed at deploying artificial intelligence technologies in the field of smart meters, Dr. Al-Mukhaima noted that the program is organized by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences in collaboration with Korea University.

He highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives and projects that utilize modern technologies and artificial intelligence to develop practical solutions for challenges facing the electricity and energy sectors, commending the team’s efforts and their focus on developing a project linked to one of the ministry’s most significant digital transformation initiatives.

During the meeting, he listened to an explanation of the project concept and the mechanism for utilizing data provided by smart meters, as well as the application of artificial intelligence technologies to analyze electricity consumption patterns. This approach aims to enhance usage efficiency, support conservation efforts, and develop innovative solutions that enable greater utilization of the smart metering system.

According to the statement, the team members drew inspiration for their project from the national energy and water conservation campaign “Wafar,” which carries objectives and messages aimed at strengthening the culture of conservation and improving resource consumption efficiency. They worked to translate these objectives into an innovative technology based on artificial intelligence and smart meter data, thereby supporting conservation efforts and promoting optimal energy use.

Attending the meeting were the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Adel Al-Zamil, and the participating team members, which include Nouwar Al-Rashidi, Ghaliya Al-Mukhaima, Fawzan Al-Fahad, and Jaraah Al-Mulifi.
