UAE condemns Iranian attack on ADNOC vessel in Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates expressed its strong condemnation and outrage today, Saturday, over the aggressive Iranian attack targeting a vessel belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, with no injuries reported.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this attack constitutes a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which emphasizes freedom of navigation and rejects the targeting of commercial ships or the disruption of international sea lanes.

The statement further stressed that “targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for economic pressure or coercion constitutes acts of piracy by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, posing a direct threat to the stability of the region and its peoples, as well as to global energy security.”

In this regard, the UAE reaffirmed the necessity for Iran to halt these aggressive attacks, thereby ensuring its full commitment to ceasing all hostile actions and fully and unconditionally reopening the Strait of Hormuz, in order to safeguard regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade.
